Benchmarks

Sandra

My first round of benchmarks were, as usual, from Sisoft’s Sandra. At the default 1.2GHz CPU clock and a 133MHz FSB, Sandra reported the Dhystone ALU MIPS at 3378 and the Whetstone FPU MFLOPS at 1658. Overclocking the processor to various speeds (more on that later), the score broke down as follows:

.

These scores, though not comparable with what I’ve seen on dual PIII systems, are excellent. And naturally, the score is best with the CPU at 1.26GHz.

For the memory benchmark, at the default I got an integer stream bandwidth (ALU) of 494 MB/s and a float stream bandwidth (FPU) of 569. These are the best memory scores I have ever seen with SDRAM*, and when overclocked as above, the scores broke down thusly:

As opposed to the CPU results, the memory performed better at the slightly lower CPU clock, taking advantage of the 6 extra MHz of the FSB (which is identical to the memory clock).

Ziff-Davis

On to the ZD benchmarks. AAPC's tests of choice here are still the CPU Mark and FPU WinMark sections of ZD's WinBench99.

These scores back up what Sandra reported, giving a 4% higher score when overclocked to 1.26GHz.

3D Mark 2001

To test the 3D rendering capabilities of this AGP card (GeForce 2 MX) / CPU / motherboard combination, I decided to give Mad Onion's new 3DMark 2001 a shot. With all the settings at their defaults (including game music and sound effects), I got a score of 1700 3D Marks- not that great when compared to scrores I've seen from a GeForce 2 Ultra card, but not too bad coming from an MX; approximately 40% better than I'd seen on a 800MHz PIII system with this very same MX.

At the different overclocked speeds, I got the following scores:

Quake III

Although there are many variables that go into a Quake III framerate, it still remains my favorite benchmark for obtaining a quick analysis of overall performance. And boy, was I impressed. With the whole system at its defaults and the game at "Normal" settings, I got a framerate of 129.7. At my two different overclocked speeds, I was only able to improve performance slightly: 1.26GHz @ 9.5x133 yielded only 130.1 FPS, while 1.25 @ 9x139 gave me 132.2.

*For example, this same CPU and this same stck of memory on the ABIT KT7 set to 12x100 gave me a 481 ALU/537 FPU.
