Infection:
Sophos is warning of the 'in the wild'-senn W97M/Michael-B virus,
which is transfered to your PC by opening an infected word document.
Payload:
The virus uses the in word integrated assistants (paperclip, professor,...)
and shows one of 21 messages to the user. One for example is
All these messages have the headline 'Quote of the moment'.
They give more or less important news. If the infected document is opened
on friday, which is after the 23th of a month, the virus tries to
interrupt printjobs. He will print the curriculum vitae of the author
instaed of the job. The print ends with:
"If I don't get a safe job till the end of this month, i will send a
third virus, that will delete every directory on the main HDD or saying in
the words of a layman para ko na ring fi-normat ang Hard Disk Mo."
Protection:
An Update of your Antivirus-software will repair this problem.
