EPoX 8KTA3+
- AMD 1.2GHz Athlon/700MHz Duron CPUs
- Titan D3 CPU cooler
- 128MB Siemens CAS2 PC133 SDRAM
- ABIT Siluro GF2 MX AGP card
- Maxtor 30GB 5,400RPM ATA100 hard drive
- LG DRD-8080B DVD drive
- Fortron/Source 300W power supply
Installation
The 8KTA3+ should not create any space issues in even the most
cramped of ATX cases. However, the space around the CPU socket does not
comform exactly to AMD's specifications, and my cooling fan’s clip was
close to coming in contact with the memory module in DIMM 1. The lock on
the AGP slot kept my card nice and snug just as it was meant to. I put a
30GB Maxtor ATA/100 drive as the master on IDE 1 and an LG DVD drive as
the master on IDE2. Since the default boot of my 1.2GHz engineering sample
Athlon is 12x100, I decided to start out with the JP5 jumper in the 1-2
position, which sets the FSB at 100.
At the first boot, I only enetered the BIOS to make sure everything was
detected properly. After going through all the self-tests, the diagnostic
LED read “FF” as I entered Windows setup. After a new installation of
Windows 2000, plus VIA 4 in 1 (v 2.84, the version included on the CD),
VIA USB filter, onboard Audio, HPT370A, and Nvidia detoantor drivers, I
decided to go back and start poking around in the BIOS.
